We are very happy to announce a new member of staff to CMC. Dr David Fleming joined us on 1st December just in time for the Christmas lunch!
Here is a short run down on David’s background and his interests.
David was previously employed as an Associate Professor in Film Philosophy at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Prior to this, he gained a full scholarship at the University of St Andrews, where he taught and worked towards his PhD, under the supervision of David Martin-Jones. In a previous strata of life, he was an international water polo goalkeeper. He is currently developing a biophilosophical media project with William Brown (University of Roehampton, London) tentatively (or tentacularly) entitled Kinoteuthis Infernalis: The rise of Chthulucinema.
Dr Fleming’s research interests surround the intersectionalities of global cinema, philosophy, and technology. He is the author of Unbecoming Cinema (Intellect/Chicago University Press, 2017), and has published in journals including SubStance, Film-Philosophy, Deleuze Studies, Journal of Chinese Cinemas, Journal of Urban Cultural Studies, International Journal of Performing Arts and Digital Media, and edited collections that include Posthumanisms Through Deleuze (Indiana University Press, forthcoming), Screening Scarlett Johansson (Indiana University Press, forthcoming), and Deleuze and Film (Edinburgh University Press, 2012). He is also currently working with Mariaelena Indelicato (Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University) to co-edit a forthcoming special issue of the Transnational Cinemas Journal themed around ‘Haullywood.’
